This course is designed for smaller workplaces that present few health and safety risks where a nominated person is required to take charge in the event of illness or accident. EFAW training enables a first-aider to give emergency first aid to someone who is injured or becomes ill while at work. Fully qualified First Aiders at Work (FAW) in larger organisations can also benefit from additional support from Appointed Persons.

This gives the minimum numbers of people to deal with first-aid emergencies.

Lower risk organisations:

	Under 50 employees	at least one appointed person
	50 - 100 employees	at least one first-aider per 100 employed
	Over 100 employees	one additional first-aider for every 100

Medium risk organisations (e.g. light engineering, warehousing):

	Under 20 employees	at least one appointed person
	20 - 100 employees	at least one first-aider per 50 employed (or part thereof)
	Over 100 employees	one additional first-aider for every 100

Higher risk organisations (e.g. construction, chemical manufacturer):

	Under 5 employees	at least one appointed person
	5 - 50 employees	at least one first-aider
	Over 50 employees	one additional first-aider for every 50 employed
